So – what the chances of both Mercedes drivers being all smiles at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend ?
Is this Max Verstappens new tagline ? – It seems the 18 year old can do no wrong as he has been promoted to the Red Bull squad from number 2 team Toro Rosso, with Russian hotshoe Daniil Kyvat being demoted to Toro Rosso after his disastrous Russian Grand Prix.
Red Bull and particularly Dr Helmut Marko (pictured here with Verstappen) are known for being ruthless, but this could be seen by some as an over-reaction, given that Kyvat was on the podium in the preceding race, in China….
Daniils collisions with 4 time world champion Sebastian Vettel in the Russian Grand Prix were viewed by many as racing incidents, particularly the second hit, which largely occurred because Sebastian abruptly slowed because of a puncture – and as F1 cars don’t have brake lights, its hard to see how Daniil (pictured above) can be penalised this harshly by the team.
It would be interesting to find out what weight Sebastian Vettels approach to the Red Bull team after the incidents had……
Your thoughts racing people ?
A lot of people doubted Gene Haas could field a competitive car straight out of the box in his first season – but he seems to have done so – albeit with a Ferrari customer engine – a 6th and a 5th in the first two races – not too shabby !
Grosjean has driven well, and Gutierrez has been unfortunate…
F1 badly needs a shake up – and maybe, here it is – I’m a supporter for sure !
Thoughts ?
So, the 2016 GP season starts here in Australia next weekend. Who wants to join my GP predictor league, called “Racing is everything” ? If you are lazy, you can predict for the first race and do no more, as your predictions just carry through to the next race, or all season if you’re REALLY lazy !- or if you’re a nerd like me, you can spend time and try to win it !
Easiest way is just to click below – that takes you straight to it….

One of his many crashes – at Shanghai.
So – “Crashtor” Maldonado has lost his drive with Lotus, now owned by Renault – because his sponsorship money didn’t come through, underlining popular belief that he was only in F1 because of the sponsorship he brought with him.
This funding was from the Venezualen oil company, PDVSA, reputed to be around $50m a year……This was initially arranged by the Venezualen president, Hugo Chavez, since deceased.
Falling oil prices and the significant effect on the Venezualen economy resulted in the $50m annual sponsorship payment being several weeks late, resulting in the termination of his contract.
Fortunately, highly rated hot prospect Kevin Magnussen, son of the very popular 1970’s driver Jan Magnussen, was waiting in the wings and was in pole position to take the seat.
Kevin Magnussen, who came 2nd on his F1 debut with Mclaren
Unfortunately for good old Crashtor, which interestingly comes up as “Crasher” on the predictive inputting here – how apt ! (laughing here) – he is known mainly for incessantly crashing (the clue is in the nickname) together with his regular cash and grid penalties etc, rather than his 2012 Spanish GP win (his only one)
He’s lucky really, as he has walked away from F1 pretty much unscathed, whereas if he had been competing 30, 20 or even 10 years ago I might have been writing a warmly affectionate obituary for him here…..
Pastor, considering his future…..
At least he had a go I guess ! – Anyone with the “F1 dream” with connections like that would have taken an opportunity as significant as that, just as Pastor did…….
